Meet the Winning Watch Brands of the 2015 Grand Prix d' Horlogerie Geneva

Last Thursday, the 2015 Grand Prix d’ Horlogerie Genève (GPGH) awards took place in Geneva. These awards constitute the largest watch competition in the world and are the watch industry's equivalent to the motion picture industry’s Oscars.

Held annually, GPHG receives about 200 watch submissions for the contest, which are then pared down by a panel of judges to the final 72 that compete for a winning spot in more than a dozen different categories.  Here, we bring you a rundown of the 2015 GPHG winning watches — some of which we are proud to carry.

Meet the NYC 2(X)IST Architectural Watches

jw-wtch-01-mod-02-scheme-03

We carry a brand in our store that, let's just say, is not for everyone. Under the name of the men's apparel (swim, t-shirts, pajamas and underwear) brand 2(X)IST, award-winning product and transportation designer, Jason Wilbur, created the NYC 2(X)IST watch, which was unveiled to the world just a couple of years ago.

“New York is three-dimensional, not only in form but spiritually. So for this watch, inspired by rule breakers and pioneers, I wanted to create a product that captures the DNA of NYC and the amazing people that make their statement t [...]

18K Yellow Gold Makes a Statement in the New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar

ROYAL OAK QP YELLOW GOLD_5_Original

Audemars Piguet unveils the new 18-karat yellow gold (case and bracelet) Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watch — just in time for the holidays. Yes, it had recently released the timepiece in rose and white gold, but this 18-karat yellow gold version is an eye catcher.

This 41mm rendition is a work of art, balance and technology. It offers astronomical moon indication so precise that it will not need an adjustment for 125 years and 317 days. The 374-part caliber 5134 is also ultra-flat with a 4.31mm thickness – making it ideal for wear [...]

Baume & Mercier — a brand that builds fine Swiss watches for men and women — unveiled a new collection earlier this year: the Capeland Shelby Cobra line, built in honor of the legendary Carroll Shelby and the Cobra car that won against Ferrari in 1965.

Now, the brand has unveiled a one-of-a-kind rendition that is going up for auction on December 15, 2015, by Antiquorum — with all proceeds of the auction going to the Carroll Shelby Foundation that raises money for families affected by heart disease.

The 44mm one-off Capeland Shelby® Cobra Flyback Chron [...]

This Holiday Season, Remember There's Nothing as Special as Giving the Gift of Time

IMG_6873

With Thanksgiving behind us and the holidays upon us, we want to start the busy shopping season with a few messages about taking time this month. We like to reiterate that there is nothing as special as giving or receiving the gift of time – something we all seem to have so little of.

Whether it is a dinner out, a few hours at a spa, or a small vacation — the concept is all about moments, relaxation and reflection. And another delight — and a great self purchase — that reflects how much your appreciate time is... a watch.

Not all watches are created equal. So, this month we will bring [...]

Understanding Titanium Timepieces

titanium watch

As the watch industry reaches out of its own comfort zone and into the worlds of aviation, motorsports and other high-tech realms, a new breed of watches is emerging. That new breed is one where new materials come into play for watch cases, bracelets and even dials.

Among the most frequently used alternative (to steel and the noble metals) materials on the market today are titanium, ceramic, carbon fiber, aluminum (aluminum alloys) and polycarbonate, or resin. Within each of these categories, the materials are not all treated equally. Over the coming weeks, we will delve mor [...]

TUDOR-HERITAGE-BLACK-BAY-BLACK

Recently, TUDOR announced the unveiling of the all-new Heritage Black Bay Black, joining the Black Bay line that was first started in 2012 and that won the Revival prize at the 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve. The initial burgundy Black Bay version was followed by a navy blue Black Bay and now the brand adds the much-coveted black model.

The Black Bay draws inspiration from a number of TUDOR's vintage submariners, in general, and from TUDOR's very first dive watch, Ref. 7922 released in 1954, in par [...]

Graduations Are Here and Father's Day Is Around the Corner — Give the Gift of Time

Yes, the season of Dads and Grads is upon us. It is hard to believe that Father's Day is just 10 days away. Similarly, many people are celebrating graduations this month. Both of these events are perfect opportunities to give the gift of time — in the form of a wristwatch.

Not only are watches a constant reminder to the wearer that you took special care in selecting a perfect gift, but also, watches make an individual statement — a way to express something personal without saying a word.

In the coming week we will bring you some great gift ideas, but we can't stress enough how great a watch would be. Maybe the young graduate would like a sporty watc [...]
