Indian Group Sues Britain's Queen Elizabeth II for Return of the 105-Carat ‘Koh-i-Noor’ Diamond

kohinoorindia1

The famous 105-carat "Koh-i-Noor" diamond, which has been part of the British Crown Jewels for 165 years, soon may be plucked from the Crown of Queen Elizabeth and returned to India — if a group of Bollywood stars succeed in their lawsuit against the UK.

An Indian group calling itself "Mountain of Light" (the literal translation of "koh-i-noor") is demanding the return of the near-perfect gemstone with deep historical roots in the Indian sub-continent.

The gem was unearthed at India's Kollur Mine in the 13th century. In its rough form, the stone weighed 793 carats — about [...]

6,600-Year-Old 24-Karat Gold Pendant May Be the World's Oldest Bling

oldestbling1

A 6,600-year-old 24-karat gold pendant found at the archaeological site of Solnitsata in Bulgaria could be the world's oldest bling.

The 2-gram pendant reflects the skill of a complex prehistoric society — possibly one of the first to work out how to process and produce gold goods, according to Professor Vassil Nikolov of the National Institute and Museum of Archaeology of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

"What's interesting regarding the gold jewel... is that it wasn't discovered inside one of the graves but between them, which might testify to some kind of a more special ritu [...]

The Crimson Flame, a 15-carat pigeon's blood Burmese ruby, set a new record on Tuesday when it sold for $18 million at Christie's Magnificent Jewels sale in Hong Kong. The gem established a new per-carat price record for a ruby at $1.2 million.

Proclaiming 2015 as the "Year of the Ruby at Christie's Hong Kong," Vickie Sek, the deputy chairman and director of Christie’s Asia jewelry department, was proud to put another record breaker in the books. Back in June, a 120-carat ruby-and-diamond necklace by Etcetera sold for $13 million, setting a world auction record for a ruby necklace.

Engagement Ring Recovered From Charred Remains of Hero’s Car; We Explain How It Survived

Kelly Winters was driving one of the 10 vehicles tangled in a fiery crash on South Carolina’s I-26 recently. And while Winters was hailed as a hero for pulling a trapped truck driver to safety, his own vehicle and a very precious package in the trunk were lost in the inferno. Or so he thought.

Winters had planned to surprise his wife, Sherry, with a freshly resized re-engagement ring — a pretty three-stone motif, featuring three blue gemstones each surrounded by a halo of white diamonds.

But, before Winters could deliver the surprise, his car and its contents were consumed by the raging fire.

"I thought the ring was lost for sure,” Winters told WIS-TV. [...]

British Jeweler Invents ‘Fidelity’ Engagement Ring; Bluetooth Chip Tracks Her Every Move

A British jeweler has designed an engagement ring that can track the wearer’s every move. Called the “Fidelity Ring,” the bridal jewelry is equipped with a wafer-thin Bluetooth chip that is discreetly slotted behind the precious stone.

Now insecure men will be able to track the whereabouts of their brides and brides-to-be in real time — assuming their significant others are willing to wear the ring.

Steve Bennett, the CEO of Gemporia, told The Daily Mail that the GPS technology behind the Fidelity Ring was originally intended as a way to protect jewelry from loss or theft. Bennett was looking to develop an “unloseable” ring.

35.1-Carat Kashmir Sapphire Sets Per-Carat Record at Christie’s Geneva

Displaying the velvety blue hue of a peacock’s neck feathers, a 35.09-carat Kashmir sapphire set a new record at Christie’s Geneva last week when it fetched $7.4 million — crushing the pre-sale high estimate of $4.3 million.

The gem’s per-carat selling price of $209,689 established a new high-water mark for a Kashmir sapphire, narrowly edging out a record set one day earlier at Sotheby’s Geneva. That Kashmir sapphire, a 30.23-carat stunner, had sold for $6.1 million, or $201,786 per carat.

The cushion-shaped record-setting sapphire was set in a ring with triangular-cut diamond shoulders and baguette-cut diamonds accents. An anonymous Asian bidder made [...]
